Aging is something both men and women are all aware of and we
will even try every option to help prevent aging and/or slow
down the aging process. Most people over the age of 25 notice
some signs of premature aging. Premature aging is typified by
fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin before the age of 40. If
were not supposed to show signs of aging until the age of 40,
why do most of us begin to age in our early 20s? Many factors
come into place, such as obesity, smoking, sun damage and/or sun
overexposure, and stress.
Obesity seems to speed up the aging process while also being the
cause of many chronic illnesses. Obesity speeds up your
biological age to approximately 8 years older than your current
age. The reason for this is because your cells divide quicker
than normal. Simply adapting to a healthy eating lifestyle and
exercise regimen can help reverse these signs of aging and even
extend your life by a few years.
Smoking damages the DNA, which causes free radicals to form as
well as fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging & sallow skin. It is
easy to spot a smoker because of the fine lines around their
lips, hallowed cheeks and dull tone to their skins. By quitting
smoking, you can help repair some of the signs of aging before
they get worse.
Sun damage, or Photo-aging, causes the skin to age prematurely.
When you tan your skin, the suns harmful rays get to the deeper
layers of skin. Skin has a memory and every time you tan and/or
burn your skin, your skin remembers this and begins to
reconfigure the DNA. Signs of premature aging are the result as
well as pigmentation changes.
Stress is linked to premature aging, but until now, we really
never understood why. When researchers studied Telomeres, caps
at the ends of chromosomes which carry genes, they noticed that
every time a cell divides, the Telomeres get shorter. Stress is
helping to speed up this process, which is why our skin health
decreases.

Proper
breathing is important to help prevent aging by helping to supply your lungs
and your body with the oxygen it needs. Proper breathing is also important
to help rid themselves of the Carbon Dioxide that can be left behind with
short breaths. Most people only use a small portion of their lung capacity
by breathing shallowly and barely expanding their ribcage. A cause of
improper breathing includes hunched shoulders, tension which causes pain in
the upper back and shoulders as well as lack of oxygen to the internal
organs and cells.
Deep
abdominal breathing, also known as diaphragmatic breathing is used in both
Pilates and Yoga. This technique is done by breathing slowly and deeply
while concentrating on your breaths. After several breaths like this, you
will notice an inner peace and relaxation come over your body. By
concentrating on breathing, you will also focus on the present rather than
worrying about the past or the future, (which is referred to as Conscious
Breathing). This is an excellent tool to stimulate relaxation, resulting in
less tension and a sense of well-being. Breathing exercises should be done
at least once a day, especially when experiencing stress or pain.
Most of us
have unsightly moles somewhere on our bodies. With all the treatment
options available, its hard to determine which option works best. There are
three main mole removal options, which include Laser Mole Removal, Shaving,
and/or Excision. Laser can be performed by a physician or an experienced
technician and can be done in a series of treatments. Shaves and Excisions
must be performed by a Plastic Surgeon. We suggest you consult with your
physician to help you determine which treatment option will be best for you.
Laser Mole Removal:
This can only be performed if your mole is flat against your skin. Flat
moles can be categorized as any dark spot or irregularity on the skin. Most
people need between 3-5 Laser treatments; some may require more treatments
to completely get rid of the mole. Raised moles cannot be effectively
treated, because the laser energy does not penetrate deep enough.
Shaving:
This procedure can be performed on raised moles and is most likely performed
by a Plastic Surgeon. This treatment is also recommended if a suspicious
mole or lesion is spotted and needs a biopsy. Your physician will numb the
area where they will shave and take a Razor-like instrument and shave the
mole flat with your skin. Some physicians suggest doing a series of Laser
Mole treatments to prevent the mole from resurfacing.
Excision:
This is another procedure performed on raised moles or lesions. This
treatment is another option for Skin cancers, which will remove underlying
tissue and skin to remove the skin cancer before it can spread. The
physician will numb the area before cutting the mole out. He will then add
a few stitches, depending on the area, to give your skin a minimal scar. A
series of Laser treatments can minimize the scar, as well as
neaclear Scar Advantage,
a product that helps to keep the skin smooth.

you chose a board certified plastic surgeon. A call to the American Society
of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell
you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding
qualifications. You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org.
The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of
Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face
and all areas of the body.
