Skin Care Tip

Polyphenols Are The Hottest Anti-oxidant!

Polyphenols are a term used to describe a broad class of phytochemicals that include flavonoids.  Many polyphenols have larger concentrations of antioxidants than almost anything else out there. The best known antioxidants in our diets are Vitamin C, E, and beta-carotene. However, hundreds of other antioxidants occur naturally in foods and beverages.

Choose rich colored fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Blueberries, pomegranates, and cranberries are excellent sources of polyphenols.  Drinking beverages that are concentrated are very easily absorbed sources of polyphenols for you.  Red wine is a very rich source of the polyphenol resveratrol, which is present in the skin of wine grapes. Eating dark chocolate is another great way to have polyphenols and it is one of the richest surces.  Polyphenols has recently been called “lifespan essentials” and they work within the body to help prevent and reduce many disease mechanisms from happening.

So boosting your intake of polyphenols on a daily basis is not all that hard to do and can be quite tasty and fun. And good for your skin.

Diet Pop Is Not Always The Answer!

With the hot summer days ahead of us who hasn’t in the past reached for a can of diet pop to quench their thirst?  With all the worry about sugar and calories, diet pop is a popular choice. This is especially true since all pop companies spend billions of dollars every year trying to convince us that diet pop is a healthier choice. Who can blame us for reaching for diet pop since when so many Americans struggle with weight gain. Is diet pop our dream come true?

Diet pop may not have as many calories or sugar like regular pop but it sure does have chemicals like caffeine, artificial sweeteners, sodium, and phosphic acid, to name a few.  There are studies that link drinking diet pop to actual weight gain.  We've written here in the past about high fructose corn syrup being bad for you and pop has plenty of this.

So next time you reach for the can of “healthier” diet pop, try a cold glass of water instead. There is just no comparison!

Plastic Surgery Tip

Minimally Invasive Chicago Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty or aesthetic eyelid surgery is performed on adults of all ages. Some people have blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) to correct problems that are a result of aging, while others have inherited traits that cause them to seek treatment as early as their 20s. Blepharoplasty is one of the most frequent surgeries performed by plastic surgeons.  It is also one of the first surgical procedures people get.  "Tired and aged" eyes are one of the earliest stigmatas of aging.

After the surgery, most people experience some swelling and bruising and may last for a week or so.  One of the first changes you will notice is the rejuvenated appearance of your eye area.
