Skin Care Tip

Powerful Vitamin C Protection for your Skin

Vitamin C is one of the most effective and important ingredients available to treat a number of skin problems, including aging skin, acne and pigmentation disorders.

With aging skin, free radicals cause damage to cells forcing the aging process into an accelerated pace. Free-radicals are stimulated by smoking, air pollution and sunlight exposure. Simply by exposing your skin to the sun, the level of vitamin C in your body drops by 30%, and subsequently, a larger number of free radicals are free to do as they please. Topical vitamin C is recognized for its strong antioxidant and photo-protective properties, and it can also block certain enzymes in the body that produce melanin which can cause hyperpigmented skin. Although vitamin C is effective in combating UVA/UVB rays, we never recommend it as a substitute for sunscreen, but as a treatment skin care product under your sunscreen.

Free radicals also cause loss of collagen; however Vitamin C destroys the free radicals before they can reach the cellular level. It can also be used with vitamin A to reverse skin changes in both photo aging and chronically aging skin.

There are three different types of vitamin C available, at different percentages, in most skin care products. Work with a licensed esthetician to fine the right combination of Vitamin C to add to your skin care regiment for healthy, radiant skin!

Anti-Aging Tip

The Sunshine Vitamin!

Vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin, is responsible for reducing the risk of certain cancers, protecting the heart and even decreasing your chances of catching a cold. However, according to certain studies, up to three-quarters of Americans are vitamin D deficient, most likely due to increased use of sunscreens.

Now, we are not suggesting you stop your sunscreen protection. What we are suggesting is to protect your face, neck and hands, but let your legs and arms get about 15 minutes of sun three times a week. It’s a good idea to avoid the hottest part of the day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Limited sun expose should be done in combination with taking a 1,000 IU vitamin D supplement and eating plenty of vitamin D rich foods including mushrooms, enriched dairy products, salmon and cod liver oil.

To know if you have a vitamin D deficiency you need to get a blood test through your physician. The cost is about $120.

Plastic Surgery Tip

Chicago Liposuction

Liposuction is becoming more popular because it is particularly well-suited for women and men who are of relatively normal weight, but have isolated pockets of fat that cause certain areas of the body to appear disproportionate. This can include exercise resistant fat or general areas of increased fat. Liposuction is often the only way to eliminate them.

For best results with liposuction, you should have the procedure done when your skin has enough elasticity to achieve a smooth contour following fat removal. When skin is inelastic, as in some older patients, it may not re-drape well and a skin tightening procedure may be necessary.
