Dodge the flu bug this winter!
It's that time of year again…flu season. With the swine flu virus still out there, people seem more concerned than ever about the flu.
Luckily there are a few things you can do to help prevent the flu from overcoming you. When a virus enters your body, your immune system can activate to overcome the virus. When your immune system is strong, it can destroy the virus preventing from you becoming sick. On the flip side, if the virus can survive and multiply you get the flu. In order to help prevent this from happening it is good to follow a few simple rules.
Eat healthy. Having a diet high in phytochemicals and antioxidants will enhance and strengthen your immune system. So eating fruits and vegetables 5 times a day can help immensely.
Exercise. Regular moderate exercise will stimulate the T cells. T cells belong to a group of white blood cells known as lymphocytes, and play a central role in cell-mediated immunity. This will help when attacking foreign bodies like germs and viruses.
Sleep. At least seven to eight hours a night. This will give your body the energy it needs to fight off illness.
Drink water. Drink eight glasses of water a day. It cleanses the body and removes toxins.
Wash hands. Last, but not least, washing your hands for at least 20 seconds frequently can help prevent the spread of germs from person to person.
When choosing a physician, it is important for the patient to be informed. One key element in selecting a physician is the status of the physician’s board certification.
What does it mean to be board certified?
Specialty certifying boards were developed to maintain and improve the quality of medical care in the US through the development of education and professional standards for evaluating and certifying physicians. Board certified simply means that the physician has completed the requirements in the specialty they choose. This generally includes graduation from an improved medical school, completion of comprehensive written and oral exam. Physicians who have successfully completed the requirements set forth by the board may be granted a certificate and are known as a diplomat of the board.
The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is the leading organization of board certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery. ASAPS active member plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Sam Speron is certified in both.
During your consult with Dr. Speron, the patient will discuss their desired goals on an individual level. Then they will further discuss the course of treatment and potential complications at the appointment time. Please check out the wealth of information on our site by clicking here.
