Organic Skin Care Still The Latest Fad!

What does organic really mean?

When it comes to the beauty industry, the term “organic” has been lobbed about so casually that most consumers are confused by the terms organic and natural products. How ever, this is a difference.

The main difference between natural and organic is that there are still no official definitive guidelines as far as to what constitutes natural products, whereas organic products must abide by stringent regulations. According to the USDA’s National Organic Program, the term “organic” may only be used on labels for raw or processed products or ingredients that have been produced according to the regulations put forth by the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB).

So how can you tell if a product is really organic?

100% organic: Must contain 100% organically produced ingredients.

Organic or Certified Organic: At least 95% of content is organic. This product can carry the USDA organic seal.

Made with Organic Ingredients:  At least 70% of content is organic, These products cannot carry the USDA organic Seal.

Is Organic Really Better?

With so much hype behind the organic beauty movement, one assumes there must be huge benefit to using organic products.

There is probably an aesthetic advantage and a noticeable difference when using organic products. Some non organic products use petrochemical ingredients such as mineral oil which can irritate sensitive skin. Also, skin recognizes and identifies with all natural products better.

So yes, in my opinion organic is better.

Anti-Aging Tip

Dodge the flu bug this winter!

It's that time of year again…flu season. With the swine flu virus still out there, people seem more concerned than ever about the flu.

Luckily there are a few things you can do to help prevent the flu from overcoming you. When a virus enters your body, your immune system can activate to overcome the virus.  When your immune system is strong, it can destroy the virus preventing from you becoming sick. On the flip side, if the virus can survive and multiply you get the flu. In order to help prevent this from happening it is good to follow a few simple rules.

Eat healthy. Having a diet high in phytochemicals and antioxidants will enhance and strengthen your immune system. So eating fruits and vegetables 5 times a day can help immensely.

Exercise. Regular moderate exercise will stimulate the T cells. T cells belong to a group of white blood cells known as lymphocytes, and play a central role in cell-mediated immunity. This will help when attacking foreign bodies like germs and viruses.

Sleep. At least seven to eight hours a night. This will give your body the energy it needs to fight off illness.

Drink water. Drink eight glasses of water a day. It cleanses the body and removes toxins.

Wash hands. Last, but not least, washing your hands for at least 20 seconds frequently can help prevent the spread of germs from person to person.

Plastic Surgery Tip

Is Board Certification Really Important?
3-dezine.gif

When choosing a physician, it is important for the patient to be informed. One key element in selecting a physician is the status of the physician’s board certification.

What does it mean to be board certified?

Specialty certifying boards were developed to maintain and improve the quality of medical care in the US through the development of education and professional standards for evaluating and certifying physicians. Board certified simply means that the physician has completed the requirements in the specialty they choose. This generally includes graduation from an improved medical school, completion of comprehensive written and oral exam. Physicians who have successfully completed the requirements set forth by the board may be granted a certificate and are known as a diplomat of the board.

The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is the leading organization of board certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery. ASAPS active member plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Sam Speron is certified in both.

During your consult with Dr. Speron, the patient will discuss their desired goals on an individual level.  Then they will further discuss the course of treatment and potential complications at the appointment time. Please check out the wealth of information on our site by clicking here.

Make sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon.  A call to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding qualifications.  You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org. The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. When considering a cosmetic surgeon, you should also make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).  A call to ASAPS (1-888-272-7711) or visiting the ASAPS website (www.plasticsurgery.org) can help you verify your plastic surgeons membership.

By far, the most important factor in the success of your procedure is the surgeon you choose.  So please choose wisely...
