The Skinny on Coconut Oil

Skin Care Tip

Coconut oil is used in many natural beauty products because of the unique ingredients it contains for your skin. Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer and cleanser. It also assists with exfoliation by softening Keratin caps. Keratin caps are a hard protein that protects the skin from infection. Keratin build-ups on the skin appear as scaly patches that block the hair follicles. Coconut oil is naturally antibacterial and anti-fungal. Coconut oil is made up of 85% Lauric Acid, a rare chemical compound. This substance reduces the risk of bacterial infections that cause and inflame acne. The only other natural substance high in Lauric Acid happens to be breast milk. This versatile oil has many other benefits like protecting from sunburns, assisting in the reduction of facial wrinkles, and preventing premature aging of the skin.

Why Avocados Save Lives

Anti-Aging Tip

Avocados are fruits which are native to South Central Mexico. The avocado fruit has a higher fat (monounsaturated) content than most other fruits. It is rich in vitamin B, vitamin K, vitamin C, vitamin E and Potassium. Avocados help to manage weight and studies have shown that they are effective in lowering bad cholesterol. They help to regulate blood sugar levels which help to prevent diabetes. They fight chronic inflammation in the body which is thought to be responsible for todays modern diseases such as asthma, allergies, arthritis, Alzheimer's, heart disease and cancer. They also assist in the development of skin and hair, improve nutrient absorption, strengthen bones, help ease pain relief, improve digestion, boost energy, improve immunity, and enhance your mood. Can you think of any other fruit with so many benefits? Get avocado into your regular diet and see what happens.

Board Certified Means What?

Plastic Surgery Tip

To practice medicine in the US, doctors must be licensed by the states in which they work. However, being licensed does not mean a doctor is qualified to practice in a specific medical specialty, such as surgery. One of the best ways to know if your doctor has the qualifications to provide care in a specialty is to find out if he or she is Board Certified and is actively participating and staying up-to-date with the latest advances. Board Certified doctors voluntarily meet standards that are well beyond basic licensing. They demonstrate their expertise by earning Board Certification through one of the 24 Member Boards that are part of the not-for-profit American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Before a doctor can become Board Certified, each must complete: four years of premedical education in a college or university; a course of study leading to an MD degree from a qualified medical school and three to five years of full-time experience in an accredited residency training program. Each doctor earns initial Board Certification by passing a written and, in some cases, an oral examination created and administered by the Member Board in his or her specialty. Maintenance of Certification is also required which means a doctor must demonstrate to their specialty board that they have kept up with the latest medical advances in their specialized field. It provides doctors a structured approach to improving the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of their practices. Because of the board certification program, the public can trust that their doctor is an expert in that specialty. To see before and after patient pictures, click here
