Skin Care Tip

Don't overexfoliate!

Exfoliating your skin can be a healthy way to remove dead skin cells and reveal healthy skin. However, as with most things in life, too much of a good thing can become unhealthy.

When a person exfoliates too often or with too harsh of an exfoliant, they can be causing more damage than good. The result is:
·      Loss of moisture which will lead to dry skin and peeling
·      Inflammation and itchiness
·      An increased sensitivity to skin products or sun
·      Discoloration
·     Increased acne

As with all skin care regimens, it is important to start slowly. The frequency with which you should exfoliate will depend on a variety of factors like the type of exfoliant (chemical or granule), your skin type, heredity, lifestyle and sensitivity. Our medical aestheticians are available for a skin care consult.

Anti-Aging Tip

Do you like Yoga?

Many people are familiar with the old adage “You are only as old as you feel” and “Young at Heart”. Do you like yoga? Well you should! Yoga has many anti-aging benefits:
·      Body Awareness: As we age our muscles and tendons begin to deteriorate. One way to fight this deterioration is with regular yoga.
·      Balance: 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50 will experience fractures related to falls. Regular yoga increases a person’s balance which in turn will lead to a lower likelihood of a fall.
·      Minimizing Wrinkles: Stress contributes to wrinkles. Yoga decreases stress.
·      Easing Pain: As we age, body aches and pains increase. Yoga increases your flexibility and strength, improves muscle elasticity, tones tendons and ligaments and assists in lengthening the spine. In turn, these will ease joint, muscle and back pain.

Plastic Surgery Tip

Chicago Tummy Tuck Surgery

A Tummy Tuck, or abdominoplasty, as a procedure that removes excess fat and skin and restores weakened or separated muscles creating a rejuvenated abdominal profile. Due to causes such as  aging, heredity, pregnancy, prior surgery, or weight fluctuation some people with normal body weight and proportion may develop sagging, loose or bulging abdomens. In some cases, despite an individual’s best efforts, diet and exercise alone will not result in the abdomen they strive to have.

A tummy tuck involves tightening the muscles of the abdominal wall with removal of excess skin and fat from the mid and lower abdominal area. There are multiple types of tummy tucks such as complete, partial, extended, high lateral tension, floating, circumferential, and also many combinations.
