Skin Care Tip

Pumpkin Peel - Just In Time For Halloween!

Pumpkin peel is a fruit enzyme, an exfoliation accelerator, a powerful anti-oxidant and a mild retinoic acid substitute. As a natural repair therapy, the Pumpkin Peel has topical beta carotene and absorbic acids to combat oxidation or free-radical damage.

Sensitive skin and acne problems will also benefit from Pumpkin Peels because it is not as intrusive as other peels (i.e. Chemical Peels).  Pumpkins are high in zinc, which is excellent for the skin.  They also have high levels of beta carotene, Vitamin C and Vitamin A. All of these are good for your skin.

Unlike other botanicals, Pumpkin contains a densely-populated array of nutrients. Through the pumpkin enzymes’ hydrolysis, many hidden advantages are released:

    • Protein-building Amino Acids

    • Plant Growth Factors

    • Anti-Oxidant Pro-Vitamins

    • Vitamin C

    • Co-enzymes

    • Moisturizing Fatty Acid

Blood Sugar and The Low carb Diet - The Basics.

Low carb diets are all about helping stabilize blood sugar (blood glucose)! Basically we eat low carb diets to keep our blood sugar normal and stable. To fully understand the connection, it’s helpful to first familiarize yourself with how the body processes blood sugar.

All foods with carbohydrates whether rice, jelly beans or watermelon break down to simple sugars in our bodies. This is what causes our blood glucose to rise. The carbohydrate in the starchiest food (potatoes, bread) is simply a collection of a long chain of glucose, which break down quickly and raise blood sugar.

Recent scientific studies have shown that a low carb diet is safe and effective. Therefore, anyone who desires to lose weight or who needs to bring their blood chemistry back into line should try a low carb lifestyle.

    Plastic Surgery Tip

Plastic Surgery & Smoking Just Don't Mix!

If you ever had Plastic Surgery or at least considered it, the main prerequisite for any procedure is to quit smoking.  It is recommended that a potential patient should quit smoking at least three weeks prior to the procedure.  After the surgery, a patient can start smoking again after at least two weeks (although we encourage them to continue this life altering change).

By quitting smoking three weeks prior to surgery, a patient gets rid of approximately 90% of nicotine that is in the smoker’s body. One should not assume that just because there were no complications during the procedure itself that you are out of the woods. You may feel and look great on the outside, but the body is still healing. Below is a list of the increased risk of complications that may arise in smokers:

    • Slower Healing Wounds

    • Increased Risk of Infection

    • Hypertrophic and Keloid Scars

    • Increased Risk of Developing Tissue Breakdown (i.e. Flap Necrosis)

    • Increased Risk of Pulmonary Problems

    • Skin Loss!

During your consult with Dr. Speron, the patient will discuss their desired goals on an individual level.  Then they will further discuss the course of treatment and potential complications at the appointment time. Please check out the wealth of information on our site by clicking here.

Make sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon.  A call to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding qualifications.  You can also visit the ASPS web site at The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. When considering a cosmetic surgeon, you should also make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS).  A call to ASAPS (1-888-272-7711) or visiting the ASAPS website ( can help you verify your plastic surgeons membership.
