Skin Care Tip:

Why You Should Be Using Ginger For Your Skin

Now that we are getting closer to the holidays, it is common to notice ginger everywhere; in our coffee at Starbucks, our desserts, and in our children’s storybook tales about the famous fast running gingerbread man. However, it is not as common of knowledge that ginger has great natural properties that are helpful for our skin. Ginger is an antioxidant that helps fight skin damaging free radicals and has traditionally been used to treat skin disorders. Ginger is also well known for smoothing and evening out skin tone, which is great for anyone suffering from hyperpigmentation. It also is an anti-inflammatory, which helps fight acne, eczema and psoriasis.

You can enjoy the benefits of ginger through several different ways which includes eating it, drinking it (ginger tea is very popular), taking ginger herbal supplements, using ginger skin care products, or even cutting a fresh slice of ginger root and rubbing its juice on your skin. Here is a great homemade ginger body scrub you can try out at home:

  • -1 cup coarse brown sugar
  • -4-5 tablespoons of organic honey
  • -2 tablespoons ginger

Mix all the ingredients into a bowl until they become paste like and proceed to use as an exfoliate!

Anti-Aging Tip:

Great Health Benefits From Nutmeg!

Nutmeg is another popular holiday spice that provides multiple medicinal benefits. In addition to sprinkling it onto your eggnog, here are a few other great purposes to one of our favorite winter spices: -Having trouble sleeping? Nutmeg is a great sleep aid and a dash of it added to a warm glass of milk can help soothe you to sleep. -Nutmeg helps relieve pain. It has been used as a staple for pain reduction in ancient medicine, and can help relieve tooth aches, abdominal pain (such as menstrual cramps), joint pain, and sores.

-Nutmeg is a great spice for our brains. It helps increase concentration while relieving stress, mental exhaustion and anxiety! -Nutmeg helps detox the kidneys and the liver. -Nutmeg also has great benefits for the skin, and is well known for helping make acne scars less noticeable. Applying nutmeg mixed with honey onto the scars is a great way to achieve that.

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Chicago Short Scar Facelift

We are all well versed with the aging process and what may come with it. One of the main casualties of aging may be the face, which can descend over time. A short scar facelift is a minimal incision facelift that repositions the skin and soft tissues of the face that have been affected by the aging process. An upside to the short scar facelift procedure as opposed to a regular facelift is the greatly reduced scarring. During the procedure, the internal soft tissue structures are adjusted separately from the skin that covers them. Any aging areas of concern are repositioned, including the skin, fat and muscles. The SMAS membrane is tightened and the skin is repositioned while any excess skin is removed. Consult a board certified plastic surgeon to learn if a short scar facelift procedure is right for you.

You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org. The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. When considering a cosmetic surgeon, you should also make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). A call to ASAPS (1-888-272-7711) or visiting the ASAPS website ( www.plasticsurgery.org) can help you verify your plastic surgeons membership.
