Anti Aging Skin Care
Face, make up and other skin care products always seem to claim they have anti-aging properties, but do they really? It is important to use a product that is right for your skin type, one that includes anti-aging ingredients, but your skin care routine needs to include all the steps below to truly obtain healthy skin at any age.
1. Cleanse and Exfoliate. The choice of product will depend on your skin type. Some products have many purposes. For example, your cleanser may contain glycolic or lactic acid and act both as a cleanser and exfoliator. Toners can also include ingredients to both exfoliate and balance the PH in your skin. Whatever choice you make for your skin, this step will give you clean, fresh skin with a healthy glow from generating new skin cells at an accelerated pace.
2. Nourish and Moisturize. Look for antioxidants in products. They are everywhere including red wine, turmeric, green tea and other natural extracts. In skincare products, you find them under these names: tocopherol (Vitamin E), ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), retinol (Vitamin A), astaxanthin and tocotrienol among others. These ingredients nourish and protect skin from free radical damage, which has a negative effect on collagen and accelerates aging. When you select a moisturizer, select one with antioxidants and the right combination of moisturizing ingredients like hylauronic acid and/ or oils such as evening primrose.
3. Protect. Avoid premature aging by limiting the exposure to the sun which emits ultraviolet (UV) rays. You do need to protect your skin appropriately to avoid aging. Apply SPF daily, every day, even in the winter months. Making this part of your daily skin care routine as the last step in your regimen every morning. If you are in extended sunlight, more than 2 hours, reapply every one to two hours. That is more important than wearing a SPF level greater than 30.
More Than Just Breakfast
According to recent finding, traditional breakfast combos are better at replenishing an exercise-weary body than most sports drinks. Gatorade and similar drinks are typically formulated with water, sugar and electrolytes – including sodium and potassium to replace the quantities of those minerals we lose through sweating. However, due to the sugar in those drinks, they have about 50 calories for every 8 ounces of fluid. Plus, one bottle can contain 20 to 32 ounces –meaning that you may ingest as many calories as you burn off. Researchers at the University of Texas examined other post-workout snacks and found that a relatively inexpensive protein-carbohydrate duo (such as whole-grain cereal and low-fat milk) performed just as well as a sports drink at delivering glycogen to muscle tissue, and better at helping muscles synthesize protein. While these kinds of snacks also carry calories, researchers say they are better for the body because they are nutritional calories.

The most common form of cancer is skin cancer in the United States and is increasing faster than other types of cancer. Skin cancer can be found anywhere on the body, but a majority are found on the face, head, or neck. The primary cause of skin cancer is overexposure to ultraviolet radiation or excessive sun exposure and other types of artificial sun (such as tanning booths). Skin cancers are not only dangerous, but they can be extremely disfiguring and cause deep, ugly scars if not treated in time. Everyone is at risk for skin cancer, no matter what skin type, race, or age. Your risk of skin cancer is greater if: Your skin is fair and freckles easily. You have light-colored eyes and hair. You have a large number of moles or moles of unusual size and shape. You have a family history of skin cancer or a personal history of blistering sunburn. You spend a lot of time working or playing outdoors. You live close to the equator, at a higher altitude, or anyplace that gets year-round sunshine. You received therapeutic radiation treatments for adolescent acne. Recognizing Skin Cancers
The best way to watch for warning signs is “ABCD”: A -asymmetry, a growth with unmatched halves. B - Border irregularity, ragged or blurred edges. C – Color, a mottled appearance with shades of tan, brown, or black sometimes mixed with red, blue, or white. D – Diameter, a growth more than 6 millimeters across (about the size of a pencil eraser) or an unusual increase in size. All you need to remember is to keep an eye on your skin from head to toe (including your back). If you notice any unusual moles or growths, consult a plastic surgeon. Plastic surgeons can remove the growth in a manner that maintains function and offers the most pleasing post-appearance.
