Skin Care Tip:

Allergy season has arrive - here are some tips on protecting your skin!

The spring months are finally here! This means mild temperatures, sunny days, birds chirping, flowers blooming, kids playing outdoors and of course, the dreaded allergy season. It is estimated that over 35 million Americans are affected by seasonal allergies each year. This is due to pollen from trees, plants, grass, or flowers floating around in the air. Common allergy symptoms include sneezing, wheezing, a runny nose, irritated skin and puffy eyes. We went ahead and compiled a list of tips that can help soothe and protect your skin from this pesky allergy season. - Consider doing a lymphatic drainage massage around the eye contour to reduce puffy eyes. This will bring down the swelling and as an added bonus improve skin texture, tone, and firmness.

-Also for puffy eyes, holding a cotton ball that has been submerged into cold or lukewarm water over your eyes can help. Tea bags can also be used to reduce puffiness and irritation. -Remember to stay moisturized in order to avoid cracked or dry skin. Products that contain aloe vera or vitamin E are great for soothing skin that is irritated due to allergies. -Gel based hydrating serums are great for fighting skin dehydration that can arise from allergies. -For the infamous red and irritated nose that is commonly associated with allergies, try applying Neosporin on the area a few times a day with a finishing drop of vitamin E oil. While you are waiting for the redness to go down, make sure the concealer you are using has yellow undertones as opposed to pink. -For itchy skin, make sure to stock up on cucumbers and coconut oil! Both are great for soothing itchy skin and coconut oil has antioxidant properties that will help soften the skin and relieve itchiness.

Anti-Aging Tip:

Why you should be eating a fiber rich breakfast daily!

We have all heard the importance of maintaining a fiber rich diet and how it helps stave off various diseases. Consuming the recommended amount of fiber can help prevent heart disease, constipation, certain cancers, and bowel disorders while it can also aid in controlling obesity and diabetes. The average recommended daily intake of fiber varies by age and gender but ranges from 21 to 38 grams while the average American is only consuming anywhere from 5 to 14 grams per day.

In addition to the various advantages of fiber intake, recent research has also found added benefits of having a fiber rich breakfast. Starting off your day with some fiber will help you stay full until lunch time and avoid snacking on anything unhealthy or having a second breakfast before noon. Not to mention, it has been found that a fiber rich breakfast aids in weight loss and reduction of LDL cholesterol. Common fiber rich breakfast foods to consider are fruits and vegetables, oatmeal, whole grain bread or muffins, and whole grain cereal.

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Chicago Chin Augmentation Surgery is a growing trend in the cosmetic surgery world!

Move over breast enhancements and rhinoplasties, it seems like chin augmentations are now becoming increasingly popular and are being reported as the fastest growing cosmetic surgery procedure. Chin augmentation consist of a surgical procedure that enhances and defines the chin line. The jawline can often be the first sign on aging and a chin augmentation can do wonders in creating a more youthful look. Chin implants are also great for reducing any loose skin under the jaw. While surgical chin augmentations are becoming more popular, non-surgical options are still dominating many chin and jawline procedures. Non-surgical procedures consist of injectables such as Juvederm, Restylne or Radiesse and tend to last anywhere from 6 months to a year. If you are considering any type of chin augmentation, make sure to set up a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.
