Skin Care Tip:

Why you should be using mineral makeup to enhance your skincare routine

Mineral make up is exploding in the beauty market, and it is covering everything from primers to mascara. People are discovering the best products for the skin come straight from the earth. The organic ingredients found in natural minerals have strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that also deliver an added layer of sun protections. Mineral makeup has also been found to be better for sensitive and acne prone skin types. The best mineral make up products are typically free of parabens and comedogenic ingredients including artificial dyes, perfumes and other potential irritants. Mineral makeup protects the skin from sun damage and environmental hazards such as pollution without causing a chemical reaction when it makes contact with the skin. Mineral makeup can also calm irritated skin due to containing high amounts of zinc oxide.

With all these benefits, mineral makeup also enhances beautification too. The water-resistant minerals absorb into the skin rather than sitting on top of it like a heavy, goopy layer. This lightweight formula is perfect for those hot summer months. They provide all day coverage and create a smooth, radiant finish that lasts longer than traditional makeup. On top of that, a jar of mineral make up will last two or three times longer than a liquid foundation.

Anti-Aging Tip:

Promise yourself that you will stop yo-yo dieting!

Yo-Yo dieting is an all too common behavior amongst many Americans. Fad diets spring up almost daily and you are constantly hearing about the new & improved ways that celebrities have dropped the pounds. Unfortunately, these fad diets tend to lead to a quick fluctuation in weight. Yes, it is possible that you can drop the desired 10-15 pounds in the short allotted amount of time during the diet. However, it is also highly likely that the weight will come back. In many instances, you may even put on more weight than you originally lost. This leads to the vicious cycle which is yo-yo dieting.

The stress the body goes under during yo-yo dieting can negatively impact your overall health. Studies have found that people who yo-yo diet tend to gain more abdominal fat after gaining the weight back as opposed to before they lost it. Abdominal fat has been found to have increased risks of various diseases which include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Additionally, the effects of weight cycling itself can increase the risks of those diseases. Yo-yo dieting can also affect us negatively on a psychological level. The constant fluctuations can lead to a feeling of “defeat” or low self-esteem due to not keeping the weight off. What we recommend is instead of looking it from a negative aspect, to try to channel these feelings into motivation to adapting a healthier lifestyle that will hopefully stick with you for your entire lifetime!

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Why Board Certification is Important!

When choosing a physician or surgeon, it is important for the patient to be well informed. One key element in selecting a physician is the status of the physician’s board certification. What does it mean to be board certified? Specialty certifying boards were developed to maintain and improve the quality of medical care in the US through the development of education and professional standards for evaluating and certifying physicians. Board certified simply means that the physician has completed the requirements in the specialty they choose. This generally includes graduation from an improved medical school, completion of comprehensive written and oral exam. Physicians who have successfully completed the requirements set forth by the board may be granted a certificate and are known as a diplomat of the board. The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) is the leading organization of board certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic surgery. ASAPS active member plastic surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Sam Speron is certified in both the ASPS and ASAPS.

The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
