Skin Care Tip:

Why Caffeine may be aging your skin!

Met’s just admit it already, America is addicted to caffeine. Whether its coffee, soda, energy drinks or stronger teas, it seems like everyone’s on some sort of caffeine kick. However, what most of us do not realize is that caffeine can be rapidly aging our skin. Caffeine is a diuretic, which prevents the body from holding water. This dries out the skin and tends to make the face more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. If you don’t think you can make it throughout the day without your caffeine fix, make sure you are keeping yourself hydrated and applying moisturized to your face in order to fight any unwanted aging.

Anti-Aging Tip:

Lifestyle changes you can make now to fight aging!

There are a slew of creams, ointments, medications and treatments out there that promote anti-aging and try to keep us looking young. However, there are simple lifestyle changes you may implement in order to keep yourself looking and feeling young. Here are a few ideas that can get you started!

1.) Keep an active lifestyle is a very important factor in fighting aging. It keeps your muscles strong and heart healthy. Great ideas on keeping yourself moving are yoga, power walking, bike riding, swimming or pilates.

2.) Get in the habit of applying sunscreen on a daily basis is another not-so-secret way of fighting aging. Stick to SPF 30 or higher to ensure the hindering of those pesky wrinkles, age spots and sun damage.

3.) Try to limit your alcohol and caffeine intake as both are very dehydrating and contribute to aging significantly.

4.) Adequate amount of sleep, try to get a solid 6-8 hours a night. It will do wonders for your energy levels, skin and overall health.

5.) This one is a no brainer but STOP SMOKING. It’s the worst thing you can do for your skin and is obviously terrible for your health.

6.) Make sure to keep up with your health by getting regular screenings and checkups. Be good to your body by making the recommended yearly doctor visits.

Hand Rejuvenation: How you can fight aging hands!

Many patients are realizing that their youthful faces and physically toned bodies seem to mismatch with their aging hands. That is why there has been a significant increase in procedures in order to make our hands look younger. Aging hands can be discernible by the appearance of thin skin, age spots, wrinkles, and protruding veins. Injectables such as Juvederm or Radiesse or even fat injections can be used in order to plump up the hands and hide unsightly, bulging veins. Laser treatments, such as photofacials, have been found to be very helpful in removing any sun damage such as age spots or wrinkles. Pairing photofacials with microdermabrasion treatments is also a great way for making the hands look healthier and getting rid of any uneven appearance or pigmentation. As for prevention of hand aging, it is generally recommended to apply daily sun protection on the hands like you would on the face. This can greatly minimize any sun damage, wrinkles, or age spots. Using a retin-a product on the hands has also been found to help fight aging.

Make sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon. A call to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding qualifications. You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org. The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. When considering a cosmetic surgeon, you should also make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). A call to ASAPS (1-888-272-7711) or visiting the ASAPS website ( www.plasticsurgery.org) can help you verify your plastic surgeons membership.
