Skin Care Tip:

Use sunblock!

During this time of year, it is important to mention sun block. All types of skin need to be treated. There is a tendency for people with darker skin to mistakenly believe that they are protected from the harmful rays of the sun. While it might be true that they get less skin cancer, there is still a significant percentage that do. With more sun damage and exposure, the risk multiplies. Of course, their increased pigmentation does not offer any protection for the accelerated aging effect the sun has on their skin.

To make the point, check out the two pictures below:

The left picture is a 58 year old American Indian female who spent practically all of her time outdoors. The right picture is a 72 year old Tibetian monk who spent practically all of his time indoors away from the sun. I believe the pictures say it all!

Sun block is an essential part of an effective skin care regimen.
Don't forget about your lips. Wearing sunglasses also protects your eyes. Both areas should not be forgotten.

Anti-Aging Tip:

Never underestimate the importance of Good Posture!

Poor posture sabotages your figure and health. It makes you look older, unglamorous, unhappy and tired. It's the first step toward dowager's hump, double chin, pot belly and sway back. And that's on the outside! Inside the body it can exacerbate varicose veins, pinched nerves and heart strain.

Put you body in alignment and things will begin to fall into place: flatter stomach, straighter back, buttocks tucked in more and a longer neck. And you'll move more gracefully, too.

Here's how to do it:

  • Stand with feet a few inches apart, toes pointed straight ahead and arms hanging loosely at your sides.
  • Distribute your weight evenly on both legs by pressing evenly on the balls of your feet. Tighten the muscles in the front of your thigh.
  • Slowly draw the buttocks tightly together.
  • Now, slowly stretch your spine upward while drawing your shoulder blades together.  Take care not to lift your shoulders or tilt your chin.

Start each day by putting your body in alignment this way, until good posture is natural to you. It's good to have a friend share this activity with you so you can check each other out.

Of course, there are many specific exercises that can help even more. Consult with your physician, a physical therapist or even a certified yoga instructor.

Once again, good posture will help you look more glamorous…feel more alive - and, most of all, keep your body much healthier for your lifetime.

Chicago Skin Cancer Removal

After the physician’s examination and the diagnosis is confirmed with a biopsy, a treatment option is picked which is usually a removal of the skin cancer. A surgery is set for the plastic surgeon to perform an excision of the area. Using a scalpel, the plastic surgeon removes the entire growth along with a surrounding border of a healthy skin as a safety margin. After the skin around the surgical site is closed with stitches, the tissue specimen is sent to the laboratory to verify that all cancerous cells have been removed
