Skin Care Tip

How Many Skin Care Products Should You Use?

Keep it simple. Too much is not good. I always say less is more.

My advice to all my patients is - SIMPLIFY YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE. Whether your see products advertised on TV or touted by influencers on social media, you may get the message that caring for your skin requires multiple steps and products. But it’s not that hard - wash your face, moisturize, and wear sunscreen. That’s it!

Also the too much, too soon application methods could make your application less effective. Wait 60 to 90 seconds to allow the products to penetrate the surface layer and work their magic. If you clump several products on at the same time, the skin can’t absorb the various ingredients, leading to less-than-optimal results.

If in doubt, come see our medical aestheticians 7 days a week for a free skin consult and they’d be happy to go over your skin care regimen with you. Yes, even if you’re not using our products. We’re ok with that. We just want you to get the best results possible. We can even show you how to mix and match. Let’s say for example, you love your current eye cream. We can show you how to mix and match any products and explain how they work together. We aren’t here to sell you something. We just want to help you.

Less is more. Keep it simple. Then you’re more likely to comply with it.

Anti-Aging Tip

Have You Heard About Fatty Liver Disease?

Fatty liver disease cases have increased fivefold over the last 10 years, and it is now the number one – and the fastest-growing – reason for liver transplant in women overall and in people over 65.

It's expected to overtake excessive alcohol use as the main reason for liver transplant. How crazy is that?

However, if fatty liver disease is diagnosed early with a FIB-4 test, it can be controlled, preventing further damage.

The FIB-4 test estimates scarring in the liver based on age, platelet count and liver enzyme levels. If the results exceed a certain threshold, the patient can be further evaluated with a liver stiffness test called a FibroScan™ to determine if there’s evidence of serious liver disease.

In the US, more than 100 million people or roughly one out of every three adults have NAFLD, a version of fatty liver disease where alcohol is not the main cause. While people can live with NAFLD, it greatly increases the risk of cirrhosis (and liver transplant), cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is most prevalent in people that have:

  • Severe obesity (90% have it)
  • People who are overweight (75% have it)
  • People with type 2 diabetes (75% have it)

Please see your doctor if you have any questions.

Plastic Surgery Tip

Breast Implant Removal: Is It A Thing?

Breast implant illness is a collection of symptoms that occur in people with breast implants. There isn't an official medical diagnosis for it. Symptoms may include fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, dry eyes and many other health concerns. Healthcare providers diagnose it by ruling out other health conditions.

Here are some of the symptoms:

  • Chronic fatigue and headaches.
  • Persistent joint and muscle pain.
  • Unexplained respiratory difficulties.
  • Hair loss and frequent skin rashes.
  • Chronically dry mouth and eyes.
  • Poor memory and concentration.
  • Depression, anxiety, and insomnia.

The appearance of these symptoms has been reported with all types of breast implants regardless of shape or filling. Onset can be anywhere from right after to many years later. There is currently no diagnostic test specific.

Breast implant removal improves or completely resolves the symptoms in my experience. Removal should include both the implant and surrounding scar tissue.
