Most Common Microneedling Answers To Questions We Get In Our Plastic Surgery Office & Medical Spa

These are the most common Microneedling Answers to Questions we get in our plastic surgery office & medical spa!

Microneedling is a collagen-boosting, skin-perfecting treatment that has become a top request in spas. Here's some tidbits that everybody asks about. Hopefully you find them helpful.

  1. Are different types of microneedling?

Yes, there are different types of microneedling. Some treatments employ radio-frequency energy for enhanced results. Others rely solely on the wound-healing response from the tiny punctures into the skin (and the subsequent boost from powerful topicals applied post-treatment).

  1. Do people use growth factors with micro needling?

Microneedling of any kind is an opportunity to apply anti-aging products like growth factors that will penetrate better through the needle punctures I get deeper into your skin.

  1. Does it matter if I go out in the sun the same day?

Stay out of the sun and avoid scheduling any major events for a week. Let your skin heal a little bit.

  1. It has no downtime right? I'm gonna look perfectly normal right away?

Don’t worry if you look a little scary immediately afterwards, especially if you've had numbing medicine injected to completely numb youbecause you've had a very deep in session. It’s normal. The skin heals and you will love your results

  1. Everybody can get microneedling, right? Or are there certain people that should avoid it?

Avoid microneedling if you have active inflammatory acne, active bacterial or viral infections such as cold sores, or active inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis or rosacea. Also if you are on a blood-thinning medication, consult with your doctor first. And be careful if you have sensitive skin or already perfect skin.

  1. Does microneedling mess up Botox or filler injections?

Microneedling does not usually do anything to deeper injections. The tiny needles do not go deep enough to disrupt the results of fillers or neurotoxins. However, we recommend waiting for microneedling at least 2 weeks after Botox injections and 4 weeks after filler.

  1. Are at home microneedling treatments the same thing?

Though some at-home microneedling tools claim to be safe, most doctors don’t recommend them. At-home rollers are only 0.1 millimeter in depth and require someone to have the knowledge of cleansing their skin properly before using them. They usually are nothing like the real thing.

Please remember, there are so many different variations in microneedling, even if you're not getting ancillary services at the same time. There are different settings on the pens and some can go very deep and some barely deep at all. Talk to your plastic surgeon to make sure you understand what results to expect. Unfortunately, I've seen lots of people that spent $5000 for microneedling for acne scars, and see no result. Don't let this happen to you.

Anti-Aging Tip

If You Currently Smoke, Quit Right Away. If You Don’t Smoke Now, Keep It That Way!

Here’s a shocker - smoking is bad for you.

This one’s personal for me because my dad died of lung cancer, even though he stopped smoking seven years before he got his first lung cancer.

Why is smoking bad?

Smoking leads to disease and disability and harms nearly every organ of the body.

More than 16 million people in the United States are living with a disease caused by smoking. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people live with a serious smoking-related illness.

Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also increases risk for many other diseases.

Secondhand smoke is also bad and contributes to 41,000 deaths each year.

If you currently smoke, chew tobacco, vape, or use any other tobacco products, quit right away — your health care team can help you. Your entire body will thank you.

If you don’t smoke now, please keep it that way!

Plastic Surgery Tip

Everyone Should Get A Yearly Medical Check Up!

Everyone should get a yearly medical check up!

First of all, I want to make sure I'm clear. Everyone. Doesn't matter if you're in your 20s. We are seeing medical problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, fatty liver, and all sorts of things in all age groups, even teenagers nowadays. Things have definitely changed and it's important for you to get a medical evaluation with your primary care physician at least every year.

Visiting a doctor annually (or more often, depending on your health) can help you take a preventive approach to care. Prevention is the best thing you could do to live a long, healthy life. Even if you get cancer removing a 4 mm Stage 1 cancer is very different than a Stage 4 cancer that has metastasized throughout your whole body!

If you have conditions known to affect heart health, such as chronic kidney disease or diabetes, please make early efforts to manage these conditions to improve your overall health. Yes this will include lowering stress, eating a heart-healthy diet and exercising. If you aren’t sure where to begin, talk with your doctor about ways you can safely improve your health.

If you're busy, and it's inconvenient, a lot of physicians also do virtual consultations nowadays. You can even do basic lab testing from the comfort of your own home.
