Skin Care Tip:

Don’t over exfoliate your skin!

Microdermabrasions and chemical peels are treatments used for skin resurfacing and to correct hyperpigmentation of the skin. They may leave your skin glowing and feeling smooth but getting too many treatments can thin your skin. Excessive thinning of your skin can cause hypersensitivity, photosensitivity, hyperpigmentation and generalized irritation of your skin. You only need enough treatments to correct your problem while stimulating your skin. For maintenance, a microdermabrasion treatment once or twice a year is more than enough. Keep in mind to alternate your microdermabrasion treatments with facials to maintain your facial hydration in between treatments.

Anti–aging Tip:

Drink lots of water!

Drinking lots of water is the key to living longer, feeling healthier and looking better! Water plays a vital role in virtually all biological processes in our bodies and is extremely important for general health and vitality. Drinking too little water accelerates the aging process. As we get older our bodies need for water increases as well. We should be drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Older people may experience a loss of thirst that contributes to dehydration. Eventually over time the dehydration takes its toll.

Some effects of dehydration associated with aging can include dry skin, fissured tongue, sunken facial structures and loss of skin elasticity and plumpness. Here are some other ways water aids in the fight against aging:

  • Keeps blood volume high, which distributes nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, keeping  cells well fed, young and vital.
  • Plumps up the disks between vertebrae in the spine to help ward off aging debilitating spinal consequences: herniated discs, hump and curved spine, and the aches and pains caused by these conditions.
  • Aids in digestion and elimination by flushing toxins out of the body.
  • Is crucial to weight loss and maintenance. Lowering your body temperature by drinking chilled water can actually help burn more fat calories. Your body compensates for the heat loss by burning fat.

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Do you have excessive sweating or do you suffer from migraines?  Botox injections have been used to treat these frustrating disorders. For excessive sweating under the arms, a series of Botox injections are placed in the axilla right underneath the skin. The Botox will reduce the sweat production and this may last in between 6-9 months. For migraines, a series of injections are placed on the face and scalp right over several migraine trigger points. This will help minimize the frequency and duration of migraine headaches.  Please check out the wealth of information on our site by clicking here.

Make sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon.  A call to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding qualifications.  You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org. The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body.
