Skin Care Tip:

Spring Cleaning: Detox your skin

Spring cleaning is not only meant for your house, but also for your body and skin. Detoxifying your skin and body is essential after a long winter of skin damage and sugary comfort foods. Purifying your body will allow your liver, kidneys, lungs, bowel and skin to function more effectively. If any of these organs is stressed and not eliminating waste products efficiently, an enhanced burden may be placed on the remaining organs. This is why people with chronic constipation often have skin conditions such as acne. There are many ways to detox and purify your body and skin, such as skin brushing which stimulates the skin and lymphatic system to eliminate toxins through the skin waste mechanisms. It also improves blood circulation throughout the body and removes dead skin cells and debris that clog pores. With skin brushing, all you have to do is use a long handled natural bristle brush. You can find a brush at the health food store or a skin care facility. Start at the soles of your feet using light pressure. Brush in long strokes from the legs towards the chest, palms of the hands towards the chest, and then the back towards the abdomen. The goal is to move lymphatic drainage to the main lymph nodes which are by the groin and the underarms. Skin brushing can be done in the morning or evening before your daily shower.

Another way to increase circulation and stimulate detoxification is contrast showers. The contrast between hot and cold water increases microcirculation through body tissues, promotes detoxification and strengthens the immune system. This helps bring nutrients, oxygen and powerful immune cells to damaged and stressed tissues that will carry away metabolic waste, inflammatory by-products and other toxic substances. Start with three minutes of hot water followed by less than one minute of cold water. Repeat this pattern at least once, always finishing with cold.

And last but not least, a good cleansing diet will be most beneficial in detoxing your body and skin. It sounds like a challenge but an all-liquid diet for a week will do wonders. Think 100% fruit juices, vegetable based blender soups, wheatgrass or green tea drinks and lots of water with freshly squeezed lemons. This diligent regimen will rid your body of all these toxins that make you feel tired, sluggish and bloated. If you cannot do the all-liquid diet, try an all fresh veggie and fruit diet. Basically just skip anything Animal-Based, such as meat and dairy. These diets can be done from a few days to a few weeks - the longer the better. Once you get all the “junk” out of your system, you will not crave fatty, sugary, unhealthy foods and your mind, body and skin will feel rejuvenated and radiant.

Anti-Aging Tip:

Green Tea can keep you young!

Clinical evidence suggests that green tea is packed with health and beauty benefits that you can enjoy whether drinking it or applying directly to your skin. Even the leaves can be used as a gentle exfoliant! Recent research shows that green tea extract is naturally rich in antioxidants, which help protect the body from free radicals (particles in the body associated with accelerated aging). Exposure to pollution, smoking and excess sunlight increases the number of free radicals in the blood, but the potent antioxidants found in green tea add strong weight to the belief that green tea not only promotes good health but also makes you look younger.

Many lotions, creams and beauty products have used chemical antioxidants, or Vitamins A, C and E in their formulas. Now, with research indicating that green tea has even more antioxidant properties than these powerful vitamins, there has been a major formulation change taking place.

You do not need to rush to your nearest skin care counter. Concentrated green tea extract is simple to make at home and is a flexible addition to your daily beauty routine. Simply put 100g of green tea in half a liter of mineral water at room temperature for at least one hour. Strain the liquid and it is ready to use. The liquid can be used as a toner, to freshen up the face, or cotton pads soaked (and chilled) can be used to soothe tired or puffy eyes. It also has antiseptic properties, so it can be used to treat minor cuts and rashes, and is surprisingly effective when applied to spots and blemishes. So start fitting green tea in your diet or in your fridge so you can maintain that young healthy glow!

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Male Breast Reduction

Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek words for "women-like breasts." Though this oddly named condition is rarely talked about, it is actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men. It may affect only one breast or both. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases.

For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast-reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes fat and or glandular tissue from the breasts and in extreme cases removes excess skin, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer and better contoured. If you are considering surgery to correct gynecomastia, this link< will give you a basic understanding of the procedure--when it can help, how it is performed and what results you can expect.
