Skin Care Tip:

Benefits Of Toning For Your Skin

To properly care for you skin, you should use a toner after facial cleansing. Facials toners remove cleanser residue. They also restore skin tone and correct imbalances in the skin. A toner can additionally restore the skin’s acid mantel and protect the skin from bacterial invasion. Toners for dry and sensitive skin generally contain nonalcoholic ingredients. Astringents, toners for oily skin, generally have a higher alcohol content. During the toning process, oil and dead skin cells continue to be removed from the skin surface. To use the toner properly, you can pour a small amount onto a cotton ball or cotton square and gently apply it in a small, circular motion starting at your upper neck and moving up you face to your forehead. Use only light pressure. If your toner comes in a spray bottle, spritz a light layer of toner over your skin. Please remember that overtoning may irritate your skin and cause dryness and discolorations. After toning, while your skin is still damp, apply your moisturizer.

Anti-Aging Tip:

The New Super Fiber

Adequate fiber intake is essential for good health. The average American eats only about 8 grams of fiber a day, but you should shoot for 15 to 20 grams. When adding fiber to your diet, the type of fiber you chose is as important as the quantity. Soluble fiber, found in fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds and most whole grains, is the best type of fiber. Soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol, blood sugar and insulin. It can also reduce the risk of cancer and balance hormone levels. Fiber works by promoting a sense of fullness. It pushes more calories out through your colon, rather than letting them be absorbed. Fiber has been studied for its effects on constipation, serum cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure and insulin resistance syndrome.

Plastic Surgery Tip:

Smoking & Your Skin

When it comes to surgery, smoking can be more dangerous than normal. Smoking increases risks and complications during and after surgery. Tobacco has a damaging effect on the heart, lungs and immune system. People who smoke within 24 hours of their surgery can restrict blood flow to their heart. Smoking can also interfere with anesthesia, causing actual complications during surgery. Other complications from smoking include infections and skin loss. Even those who smoke within six weeks after their surgery can prolong the overall recovery process. Because of the potential complications, some surgeons will not perform certain surgeries or procedures until you have completely quit smoking. That means being smoke free for 2 to 3 weeks before a surgery or procedure. Hopefully this information will help you get the best results from your surgery or procedure.

Make sure you chose a board certified plastic surgeon. A call to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS at 1-888-4-PLASTIC (ie. 1-888-475-2784) can tell you which doctors are legitimate plastic surgeons with outstanding qualifications. You can also visit the ASPS web site at www.plasticsurgery.org. The ASPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. When considering a cosmetic surgeon, you should also make sure your surgeon is a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). A call to ASAPS (1-888-272-7711) or visiting the ASAPS website (www.plasticsurgery.org) can help you verify your plastic surgeons membership.
