Men’s skin is biologically different from women’s skin. Although men’s skin is thicker, water evaporates from their skin at a higher rate than women’s. In addition, men’s skin is more acidic, which leaves it more prone to dryness. But like women, men are faced with the same harsh factors such as UV rays, pollution, cold weather, and drying heat. All of this adds up to hydration of the skin being one of the most important essentials for men’s skincare. Men’s moisturizers are specifically formulated to penetrate their thick skin better and to deliver ingredients that combat the skin care concerns specific to men. Most topical moisturizers contain one of the following to hydrate the skin and maintain healthy moisture levels: Humectants – these attract water from the lower dermis layer into the top surface of the skin. Common humectants found in skin care include honey, glycerin, urea, lactic acid, panthenol, hyluronic acid, proplyene glycol and sea salt.
Occlusive agents – these help increase hydration levels by creating a barrier on the skin’s surface to prevent trans-epidermal water loss. Tocopherol (a derivative of vitamin E), vegetable oil, dimethicone, squalane and silicones are example of occlusive agents. Emollients – are ingredients that soothe and soften the skin. Common emollients in skin care include Jojoba oil, squalene, castor oil, and avocado oil. Men should be aware that the key concept to maintaining healthy and good-looking skin is proper hydration. A basic step to achieve this is to add a moisturizer into a skin care routine. This is one of the simplest ways to keep male skin looking healthy and young.

As you probably already know, a healthy lifestyle consists of exercise, eating right and getting plenty of sleep. But you should also consider your surroundings, especially your home, when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Below are a few easy tips on how to make your home healthier.
1. Take off your shoes. Establish a “no shoe” policy in your home to reduce the amount of dust, pollen, and pesticides that shoes carry into your house.
2. Switch to all natural household cleanser. From dish soap to floor polish, natural foods stores offer a great selection of non-toxic cleaning products for your home and your clothing.
3. Change your light bulbs. Replace your standard bulbs with compact fluorescents to reduce the frequency of changing the bulbs while saving energy.
4. Upgrade your HVAC filter. High performance and HEPA rated filters are available for your return vents, helping reduce indoor pollutants by filtering dust, pollen, and other undesirables from the air, ultimately keeping your heating and cooling system cleaner.
5. Avoid plastics. By banning vinyl and other PVCs, you will keep dioxins out of the air and plastics out of the landfill. This will also reduce your family’s exposure to the toxic substances known to leach from these substances.

Chicago Radiesse Injections
Soft Tissue Fillers are used for volume replacement meaning they can displace wrinkles, plump lips, and fill hollows under the eyes and cheeks, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Radiesse, which was previously known as Radiance, is unlike any other injectable, soft tissue filler. Radiesse is reported to be one of the longest lasting wrinkle and facial fillers on the market. Radiesse is approved by the US FDA for treating deep facial lines, wrinkles and facial folds. It is also effective at filling in facial depressions and may allow you to avoid or delay invasive plastic surgery such as a facelift. Radiesse injections contain gel with suspended microscopic calcium spheres. As the gel is absorbed over a 3 month period, your body forms a collagen structure around the spheres. It remains soft and flexible once injected and feels natural in the injection site after the first month. Radiesse has no allergy testing requirement and can be performed soon after the initial consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Radiesse is used primarily in the lines between the Nasal labial folds, upper lip, smile and frown lines, acne scars and thinning lips. Your plastic surgeon will typically inject a numbing agent into the area to be treated and then begin the injections. Any swelling that occurs lasts about 24-48 hours. Radiesse is naturally metabolized by the body and can last up to 3 - 5 years. However, most of my patients with facial injections think it lasts about 1 – 1.5 years.
