Liposuction Scar Revisions

Liposuction is a very popular surgical procedure that removes fat from your body. Almost 250,000 liposuction procedures take place each year in the United States.

There are different types of liposuction, but every single type involves making small incisions in your body to use a suction-enabled device called a cannula to remove the fat.

Immediately after your liposuction procedure, the incision sites will be most prominent. As these scars heal, they typically fade to a thin white line within 6 to 12 months after surgery.

There are two types of revisions that we see, one is from the liposuction procedure itself, and one is from the small incisions.

1. Minor scar revisions can help improve contour irregularities (lumps or depressions), hey symmetry, or incomplete fat removal. Skin excess or loose skin can be improved either with laser skin tightening or surgical removal.

2. Minor scar revisions can help improve the texture, depressions,  pigmentation changes or size of the scar. This is especially common with new modalities, such as power, vaser, ultrasonic, or laser liposuction that can injure the skin around the access scar and result in scars that are not imperceptible and are actually highly unattractive.

2. Silicone gel sheets and silicone gel. These are popular at-home treatments to minimize the appearance of scars.

3. Chemical peels. These are used to treat discolorations and scars. They can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results but also take longer to recover from

5. Microdermabrasion. This is a popular treatment offered in many spas. This treatment can improve scars by exfoliation of the outer layers of skin, in turn reflecting light.

6. Laser. The you are laser treatments are typically no downtime. Several treatments are often necessary.
