Let's be honest when Botox first came out it was a game changer. Unfortunately, a lot of people just follow the initial studies and people either look overdone, way too paralyzed, or they get complications.
I see a lot of people in my practice that get Botox done by nurses, dentists, family practice physicians, aestheticians and every doctor and spa under the sun. Is not very difficult to do. But it's difficult to do correctly and to know what you’re doing. And another thing you should know, in the state of Illinois their rules about who can or can't do Botox. One of the groups of people that cannot do Botox in the state of Illinois are aestheticians. Medical boards also have rules on the different specialties. I'm not here to lecture anybody, but you should be your own advocate and know who's doing your Botox. And you should really research whether or not they should be doing your Botox.
The indications and usage for Botox keep expanding in one of the newest advances that's been around for a while now is Micro Botox - this simply means doing several Botox injections as opposed to one. To be clear, I’m not talking about getting 40 injections versus one. This gives you a much more natural look. It's probably most important though, to know the anatomy and know where to put it and where not to put it. A lot of people don't really understand the anatomy and put it in the wrong areas then wonder why people look weird? You don't always inject Botox in the same place either. If you're doing it for excessive sweating versus migraines versus wrinkles, there's a different location for each of these. So please be your own advocate and please educate yourself.
