A Tummy tuck can be life-changing!

A Tummy tuck can be life-changing!

A tummy tuck — also known as an abdominoplasty — is an outpatient  cosmetic surgical procedure to improve the shape and appearance of your abdomen.

This surgery usually takes about an hour or two, but it really depends on the complexity of your particular abdomen, how much extra skin you have, how much fat you have, and how loose your abdominal muscles are. Liposuction is a common add-on with this kind of procedure, but even if you just get a tummy tuck, I typically will do liposuction of the abdominal area at the same time to get you a better result. I don't make people wear binders for many months, typically just for the first week.

It's really important to make sure that your health is optimized and you can have a quick outpatient procedure. Usually medical clearance with your physician is required. The other really important things to make sure that you're not smoking at least 3 to 4 weeks before surgery. This can affect healing of the skin and repositioned muscles. Of course, smoking, also affects your lungs and breathing.

Most patients are very happy and love their dramatic results. Like any cosmetic surgery, you have to make sure to have realistic expectations though. There are always limitations to any surgical procedure.

Please remember that for any kind of cosmetic surgery, a private consultation is the best first step.
